Brunch at Zero Zero and Cityscape San Francisco

This weekend I FINALLY got to watch Star Wars and I loved it!!  Does it have its share of plot holes and some really convenient story telling?  Sure!  But I still enjoyed the hell out of it, and the pros totally outweighed the cons.  JJ Abrams you are my hero.  Just fantastic.  I occasionally write about costumes and fashion in film (a career route I almost chose), and I have a feeling I’ll be revisiting this at a later time.

I had the pleasure of brunching at Zero Zero with friends this weekend and had probably the best pancakes I’ve ever had in my life.  I honestly didn’t think pancakes can be fancy but here they are, fancy.

omg.

I can’t even put my fingers on exactly what made it taste so good – maybe it’s the flour they named the restaurant after – 00, a type of finely milled flour commonly used in Italy or Italian recipes.

We were eating at such an odd hour that the restaurant was basically empty and we were able to appreciate the lovely rustic decor.

The experience was overall a positive one besides for the service being a bit hit or miss.  If you’re local or planning on visiting SF, the restaurant is conveniently located close to downtown.  Visit their website for more information.

Downtown and cable cars

This time of year the city is starting to get ready for Lunar New Year’s celebration and the lanterns are up.  Funny enough, now that in SF all bus and taxi lanes are painted an eyesore red (why, SF, why??), the lanterns actually blends right in on Market Street. Continue reading

A Black and White K.I.S.S. – Keeping It Simple, Sister

A Black and White K.I.S.S. - Keeping It Simple, Sister

Happy black Monday, girlfriends!

Feeling recharged?  Enjoy this set of black and white pieces for a monochrome Monday – my favorite type!

It’s seriously my Monday secret / not secret.  Have anything that’s black or white?  Throw it together, slap on some neutral heels or sneakers, whichever balances out the look, and you’re good to go in under 15 minutes.   Look at that, you even have some extra minutes to spare on Instagram.  A few more tips to start your Monday right:

1 – If you bring food or snacks to work, pack them the night before!  This one sounds super obvious but you start binging on Netflix Sunday night and executing it is a whole other story.  As Nike would say, just do it.

2 – This one may not sound like a time saver, but try tidying up your frequented areas to have an organized house to work with come Monday morning.  The bathroom and kitchen counters, the floor space in front of your closet, your hallway or doorway where you keep your keys and anything you grab on your way out.  You’ll thank yourself the next day while rushing and your not knocking over things or looking for your makeup/keys/food/sanity.

3 – If you worked on anything over the weekend that you’ll need to bring in on Monday, remember to pack everything up and have it ready to go next to the door.  Don’t leave it until morning thinking it’ll only take a second to sweep everything off the desk and into your bag.  Respect your overtime by not treating your work as an afterthought.

Hope I helped!  Love or hate the set?  Drop me a line below!  Have a great week peeps.

Friday Announcement: TYPENU Co is Launched!

Gosh this week completely flew by and unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to create more meaningful blog content; but I am happy to announce that my little e-shop is all re-branded and launched on a beautiful site (using Shopify)!  Woohoo!

TYPENU CO – Jewelry that’s quietly minimal, always beautiful, and occasionally adorable

typenu-on-the-table

Last week I shared some of my personal favorite pieces while I discussed a little goal of mine for New Years, and here we are!  Okay, I kind of cheated when I made the goal because it was already in process but I just didn’t know when it was going to be completed.  Making it a concrete goal has definitely lit a fire under my ass though, which in this case isn’t a bad thing.

A little bit about the rebranding – I had named the business back when I just wasn’t sure where it would really go, and so I named it after one of my favorite french words ‘inconnue’, the feminine form of the word meaning stranger, something unfamiliar.  After awhile I didn’t feel like it really encompassed the value I wanted to have behind my brand, and so I set out to change it to the TYPENU Collective.

I’m nowhere near done though; now that the shop is up and running I’m looking to find my blog a new official home too, this blog will remain with the web address under the old brand until I have a good home.

If anyone has tips of a good and affordable blog hosting service I’m all ears!  Have you ever tried to start an online business?  Which e-commerce / marketplace did you decide to go with?  I would love to hear some of your successes or challenges, and it would also really help me out to hear any constructive criticism for TYPENU Co!

Shhhh…I’ll leave you guys with a small surprise:  25% off a purchase of $15 or more using code ‘HAPPY2016’!

A Lesson Instead of Resolutions, Plus 2016 Style Goals

A twist from making New Years resolutions!  Screw them; let me instead share my most major lesson of 2015.  Yes I’m a bit late to the party, but I’ve been putting off writing this because 2015 just wasn’t a very good year for me.  Denial!

A Lesson in Relationships

Being in the fashion industry I’m as materialistic as they come and I have no problems saying it out loud – in fact, if I’m not, I wouldn’t be very good at my day job.  I love my clothes, I love my shoes, and I love rolling around on the closet floor that’s full of my favorite things when I’m too lazy to hang them up.

But I consider my friendships priceless.

Throughout 2015 I encountered many attempts to put a price on one of mine, and I found myself thinking about the nature of that relationship.  Friendships are the results of 2 parties having mutual affection in its interactions with each other.  Most would agree that a good friendship is balanced; how much you get out of it depends on how much you put in.  There exists a mutual understanding and caring that goes beyond simple association.  But when one party doesn’t see it that way, how do you deal?  When he or she sees your friendship as a materialistic one, one that they can pay off and feel they owe you absolutely no time of day after what they would consider debts repaid, the relationship is broken.

The off balance relationship felt like one giant void of karmatic nothingness in which I was depositing into on a regular basis; it saddened me and left a sour and bitter bite on my mind and soul.  I took a long hard look at myself; maybe I was expecting too much.  If I offer my time and talents for free in the name of friendship, then maybe I deserve nothing back.

Who am I kidding, that’s bullshit.

Therefore, my lesson – you cannot control the cards you are dealt, but you can make decisions on how to play them.  I cannot control the action of others, but I certainly can control my own reactions.  Have more confidence in my own actions and talents, and stop letting others place value on something that deserves no price tag.  And never align yourself to values through the eyes of others.  The relationships dear to me will always remain priceless, and nothing will change that.

2016 Style Goals

Anyway, life does go on.  Let’s move on to the fashion side of things, 2016 winter style goals featuring oversized silhouettes, monochrome palettes, and minimalism.
